Open the display’s Resolution menu, or Settings › Display. Under each choice Second Display shows the size it gives, in the words of macOS, for example “Looks like 2240 × 1260” for Default on a 24‑inch iMac.
- Larger Text makes everything bigger.
- Default matches the display Mac’s own resolution.
- More Space fits more on the screen, with smaller text.
Change the size here: System Settings can’t change it for this display. Retina sharpness and the 60 Hz refresh rate follow the display Mac by themselves.
On the display Mac
For the sharpest picture, leave the display Mac at its own default resolution. If it runs a scaled one, it tells you: “For the sharpest picture, use this Mac’s default resolution.”
