- Second Display is finding the display Mac. Keep the app open there.
- “… not found. Is it awake?”
- If the other Mac isn’t found
- “Reconnecting…”
- The connection dropped for a moment, and Second Display is getting it back.
- “Cable unplugged”
- The cable was unplugged
- “Stopped from the screen recording menu”
- The recording was stopped from macOS’s indicator. Turn the display on again in the menu.
- “Second Display was quit on …”
- Open Second Display again on the display Mac.
- “… went to sleep”, “This Mac went to sleep”
- It connects again when the Mac wakes.
- “The other Mac needs an update”, “This Mac needs an update”
- Update Second Display on the Mac it names. Updates
- “The previous session is still closing…”
- macOS is still removing the display of the last session. Second Display tries again by itself; give it a minute.
- “Couldn’t start. Is this Mac locked?”
- Unlock the Mac you work on.
- “Can’t show your screen”
- Screen Recording is off for Second Display. Allow Screen Recording
- “Local Network access is off”
- Allow Local Network access
- “Sign in to connect”, “Free hour ended”
- Sign in to start your free trial. The free trial
- “Trial ended”
- Buy Second Display to keep using it. Buy Second Display
- “Licence check needed”
- Connect to the internet once, so Second Display can check your licence.
- “Stopped. This connection is turned off in Settings.”
- Turn on Allow Wi‑Fi and Ethernet in Settings › Connection, or use a cable.

The line under each display in the menu says what Second Display is doing. Here’s what the less obvious ones mean.
