Change a Mac’s role

Open Settings: on the Mac you work on from the menu bar, on the display Mac with the gear on its waiting screen.

In General, set Use this Mac as to Computer or Display.

Confirm with Switch. Switching ends the connections this Mac has.
The Computer role needs macOS 14 or later. On an older Mac it says “Needs macOS 14 or later”, and that Mac can still be a display.
